Promptlink Adds Throughput Packet-Loss Testing Enhancements to Popular Cable Modem Test Platform (CMTP)
To address the limitations of TCP-based throughput tests, Promptlink has added UDP-based throughput testing to its Cable Modem Test Platform (CMTP).  The current maintenance release of CMTP now contains the choice of TCP or UDP throughput tests.
There are three types of available throughput tests in CMTP: bi-directional, upstream and downstream.  These tests were originally designed with just one mode of operation, as throughput or bandwidth verification tests.  Now an additional mode that conducts packet loss testing is also available.  CMTP now offers two types of throughput tests (based on TCP or UDP protocols) as well as additional configuration options for these tests.  The Bandwidth tests use the TCP protocol, while the Packet Loss tests use the UDP protocol.
The packet loss test has been determined to be increase the ability to detect whether a modem is capable of producing expected throughput results. The throughput test supports more detailed analysis and provides information valuable in determining bandwidth capabilities. With cable operators pushing the bandwidth offerings higher and higher to customers, this test is critical in determining which cable modems can support such increased bandwidth offerings.

Promptlink Releases Version 2.0 of Cable Modem Upgrade Tool for Modem Firmware Management
Promptlink Communications released version 2.0 of its popular Cable Modem Upgrade (CMU) tool for firmware management of DOCSIS Cable Modems. CMU version 2.0 incorporates innovative method to safeguard modems during the firmware upgrade process, preventing widespread modem outages that can be caused by defective cable modem firmware.
Responding to market pressures to help safeguard cable modems during mass firmware upgrades, Promptlink’s CMU version 2.0 executes an innovative and proprietary method for performing mass firmware upgrades. CMU 2.0 has an added monitoring function that tracks the success of mass cable modem firmware upgrades and halts this process when customer-determined thresholds are exceeded for failed upgrade. CMU 2.0 is now available to all current and future Promptlink customers needing to manage mass firmware upgrades. CMU has already been used by MSO customers to upgrade thousands of cable modems in a safe, speedy and efficient manner. CMU 2.0 promises to exceed version CMU 1.0 with this security enhancement and other new features. CMU is a part of many Promptlink products, including Cable Plant Monitoring and Cable Modem Test Platform; where the flexibility to upgrade firmware on-the-fly adds value to these other products.

Promptlink Debuts New Product to Test DOCSIS Devices in a Warehouse Environment
Promptlink Communications today announced the release of a new innovation in Cable Modem Testing tools, the Cable Modem Test Platform (CMTP).  Promptlink’s CMTP is an SNMP based tool designed specifically to test and verify the functionality of DOCSIS cable modems.  With a large volume of cable modems being returned from customer homes that must be screened for functionality, CMTP fills a definite need in the cable broadband industry.
This CMTP test platform allows MSOs, Cable Modem Manufacturers and Independent Test Laboratories to perform testing and verification of cable modems, up to hundreds at a time.  CMTP acts as a test harness, allowing rapid and cost-effective testing, such as monitoring and upgrading the modems that are returned from subscribers.  This system is highly flexible – it can test and upgrade modems from different vendors and generate Pass/Fail notices or other detailed customizable reports.  The test procedures can also be customized to meet specific needs.  CMTP quickly creates a test environment that simulates a small cable plant, building benefits from a controlled test environment that allows for diagnosis of device-related issues by elimination outside influence found in a live plant.
Wi-Fi wireless networking is quickly becoming the favored way to network a home, a small office and many public spaces such as airports and even public parks.
